Alumni Chapters conducted successfully in 9 cities across the world

With each passing year, the spirit of the JBIMS alumni grows stronger as we endeavour to strengthen our alumni network. In an attempt to help the alumni based outside Mumbai come together, like every year, this year too we organized chapters in various parts of the world.

The chapters for 2009 were successfully held in 9 cities, 4 domestic and 5 international, namely Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Pune, Singapore, US East Coast, London, Dubai and Hong Kong, with the US East Coast Chapter being held for the first time.

The response received for all the 9 chapters was enthusiastic and it was heartening to see our alumni network so well connected. The curiosity they had for the happenings at Bajaj, further strengthened our belief in the common thread that binds Bajaj alumni all over the world.

The major outcome this year was the formation of two Alumni Associations – Bangalore and Singapore.

The Singapore Chapter, which was held on the 15th of November, 2009, resulted in the formation of the Singapore JBIMS Alumni Association, which has been formed with an agenda of building up professional contacts, supporting JBIMS in every way possible and Social Service. The main objectives of the association are to increase the visibility of Bajaj internationally and bring in more guest lectures and placements.

The Bangalore JBIMS Alumni Association was formed on the 21st of November, 2009 with an agenda of networking and a focus on improving the infrastructure at Bajaj. The Association is now dynamic and self-sustaining.

The auditorium of Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies was abuzz with excitement as 120 students of the 2011 MMS Batch awaited the arrival of Mr. Subrata Mukherji, Director, ICICI Ventures Ltd., and an alumnus of the institute from the batch of 1976 on the 13th of August, 2009. The students of second year, MMS escorted and introduced Mr. Mukherji to the incoming batch, on a day which would undoubtedly be one of the most important days of their lives.

Mr. Mukherji welcomed the batch of 2011 and addressed the students on the theme “Leading in tough times” He explained to the batch how the world of business is facing tough times, with global markets seeing changes, companies gearing to face unexpected trends, policies and regulations being revisited, markets being at their volatile best, and popular beliefs and conventional wisdom being challenged. He drove home the fact that the present is an era of change; a period of giving birth to new ideas, and re-building a new global business environment.

He focused in particular on the Indian outlook, how India continues to be a land of opportunities even in this transient period, and how India is poised to be one of the first few nations to emerge out of the financial crisis. He went on to enumerate the advantages that India possesses vis-à-vis other nations, and how we can leverage these advantages through continuous learning, implementing strategic change, creating flexible organizations, and encouraging innovations. He emphasized on the importance of being action oriented, never getting complacent, and having deep rooted values and integrity in order to succeed in today’s business environment.

After the informative presentation by Mr. Mukherji, he invited questions from the students and satisfactorily answered all their queries and apprehensions. He went on to speak about how privileged the students were to have the opportunity to be in an institute such as JBIMS. He encouraged the students to make the best of the next two years, to always have an open mind and be adaptable to change.

Mr. Mukherji told the batch that “Great leadership and great success emanate from dreaming, learning and executing…..you’ve already taken the first step….and your two years here will be your second step…as it prepares you for success…” There could have been no better way for the incoming batch to start their studies at Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies than with such inspiring words from an industry stalwart, and alumnus of the institute.
